A Brief Overview
Under the supervision of the Manager/Supervisor performs phlebotomy. The phlebotomist I must exhibit the ability to work independently in all outpatient/ambulatory settings, demonstrating the nuanced knowledge required to successfully serve patients in these settings.
What you will do
- Performs venipuncture and capillary phlebotomy following established procedures, including:
- Identifying patient correctly 100% of time
- Rendering age appropriate care
- Following all safety and infection control rules
- Enters or releases all applicable information orders in the appropriate computer system, verifying that all tests are ordered accurately and completely using established procedures; makes inquiries when needed.
Ensures that all orders are accounted for before finishing patient, including draws on the daily Pick up lists. - Must understand and demonstrate competency of the computer hardware and software unique to each area
- Must understand and be capable of implementing the downtime procedure in both inpatient (if applicable) and outpatient/ambulatory settings
- Must understand and demonstrate competency of laboratory equipment and maintenance procedures (such as centrifuge, printers, etc)
- Uses problem-solving to address any and all problems that arise and follow through with appropriate action. Responds to work demands with very little or no errors and is able to perform the essential duties assigned independently
- Interacts professionally and cordially with coworkers and colleagues.
- Follows all inventory control policies and keeps the laboratory clean, well-stocked, and generally in good appearance.
- Assists in receiving and rotating supplies, taking ownership of resolving all discrepancies.
- Must be flexible in scheduling (including rotating on-call, weekends, and holidays) and cooperative in performing all assigned duties, which includes but not limited to additional pickup runs, performing OGTT, completing all paperwork and equipment maintenance.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested
Schedule
Monday - Friday: 9:30am - 6:00pm
The team also shares weekend and holiday coverage on a rotating basis (6:00am - 2:30pm)
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED Required
- Technical Diploma Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant Training Program Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- At least one (1) year phlebotomy experience Preferred
- Pediatric phlebotomy experience Preferred
