The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH), operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), is currently seeking experienced LPN II professionals to join our Med/Surg unit teams. In this vital role, you'll work under the guidance of a Registered Nurse to provide direct, practical nursing care to a diverse patient population, including individuals from the Department of Mental Health (DMH), Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Department of Correction (DOC), Houses of Correction (HOC), and the broader community. As an LPN II, you'll take the lead in coordinating high-quality care by directing ancillary staff and implementing the nursing process to support patient recovery and well-being.

Please Note: Multiple Shifts available. Full Time and Part Time available. Days off are assigned; work every other weekend.

  • 7-3:30PMĀ Ā  Days
  • 3-11:30PM Evenings
  • 11-7AM Nights

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Deliver direct bedside nursing care and implement interventions under RN supervision
  • Administer medications as prescribed; monitor effectiveness and report adverse reactions
  • Perform technical nursing procedures as directed by RN
  • Accurately document patient care and intervention outcomes per hospital policy
  • Monitor and report changes in patient condition to Nurse Manager and charge nurse
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment in alignment with safety and infection control protocols
  • Manage and document narcotic administration
  • Supervise and guide attendant nursing staff during team assignments
  • Provide on-the-job training to LPN I staff and Nursing Assistants
  • Participate in patient care planning, team meetings, and community meetings
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through assigned and elective educational programs
  • Support departmental safety, risk management, and cost-effective care initiatives
  • Contribute to performance improvement activities within the hospital and department
  • Foster a therapeutic milieu and serve as a resource for patients, families, staff, and external partners
  • Deliver age-appropriate, culturally sensitive care to all patients
  • Ensure continuity of care through effective hand-off communication

Required Qualifications:

  • Solid understanding of nursing theories, principles, and the nursing process
