This position will apply paints and stains to walls, ceilings, equipment, signage, and additional irregular surfaces such as parking lots, streets, and athletic fields.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Applies paints, stains, surface preparatory materials and undercoating materials to a variety of surfaces, as appropriate according to Material Safety Data Sheets within established hazardous materials guidelines.
  • Determines appropriate color for new or replacement applications through consultation with customer.
  • Updates surfaces that need to be repainted that have become old or faded as directed. 
  • Prepares and implements line striping layouts for streets, parking lots and athletic fields according to ADOT and the various Athletic requirements.
  • Identifies, safely handles and appropriately disposes of paints, stains, preparatory and undercoating materials and other hazardous materials.
  • Will reapply or add new graphics and signs such as handicap parking, ramps, and other areas that are required by ADOT, Safety and ADA agencies.
  • Applies different kinds of paint, stains, lacquer and/or other types of resins or finishes to buildings, furniture, equipment and other structures as needed.
  • Washes, scrapes, sands, torches and/or smooths interior and exterior surfaces prior to painting, varnishing, lacquering or applying other related materials.
  • Installs, repairs and maintains drywall, wall texturing and ceiling acoustic texturing.
  • Cleans equipment, paint mixing area and work area.
  • Operates compressors, striping machines, sandblasters, spray equipment and other small power equipment.
  • Operates heavy equipment including scissor lifts, boom lifts and swing stages to heights of 80 feet.
  • Erects various types of scaffolding, staging, ladders and planks to reach surfaces in the work area.
  • Perform maintenance painting of campus infrastructure, including handrails, light posts, security bollards, fire hydrants, safety rails, doors, gutters, stem walls, and building structures. 
  • Completes billable work assignments including surface preparation, taping, priming, and finish coating of interior spaces of offices, common areas, walls, restrooms, stairwells, closets, and customer service areas. Paint and refinish furniture and fixtures such as bookcases, filing cabinets, tables, desks, ceiling tiles, and ceiling grids. Perform floor sealing and surface preparation, including grinding with floor grinders.
  • Communicates effectively with building managers and administrators to coordinate work and address customer service needs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to paint, stain, and understanding of proper surface preparatory materials.
  • Ability to discern correct color applications.
  • Ability to install and maintain drywall.
  • Knowledge of proper line striping layouts for streets, parking lots, according to ADOT and state/federal regulations.
  • Skills with heavy equipment including scissor lifts, boom lifts, swing stages, compressors, striping machines, sandblasters, spray equipment, and other small power equipment.
