About the role

The Team:

K9 West at the Royal Hobart Hospital is a 32-bed Level 6 General and Vascular Surgery ward managing complex elective and emergency admissions across colorectal, upper GI, breast, endocrine and vascular specialties. The ward incorporates the Women’s Surgical Unit, providing gynaecology and gynaecology-oncology care, and is the statewide tertiary referral centre for Vascular and Gynaecology Oncology patients. Working in close partnership with Stomal Therapy, the team delivers specialised post-operative care, education and discharge planning for patients with new and complex stomas and fistulas.

The Role:

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) is an advanced practice nurse who leads the delivery of safe, high-quality, and patient-centred care. This role actively supports the Nurse Unit Manager and broader leadership team by driving quality improvement, enhancing patient flow, and minimising risk. The CNC plays a vital role in meeting the requirements of the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards, with a focus on person-centred care, clinical governance, comprehensive care, and communication.

You will need:

  1. Extensive experience with demonstrated advanced level of clinical expertise in surgical or perioperative nursing; is completely patient/client focused, demonstrates self-awareness and the effects of behaviour on others, deals with or manages ambiguity and complexity, and demonstrates resilience in the delivery of safe and quality patient care.
  2. Demonstrated ability to provide contemporary leadership that facilitates the ongoing development of clinical practice, together with the ability to initiate, guide and motivate a multidisciplinary team in the development, implementation and evaluation of innovation and change development, quality improvement, action research and clinical risk management activities to address emerging service needs in relation to Safety and Quality.
  3. Demonstrated ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice through planning, quality improvement and research.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for three months.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $118,297 to $125,543 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type
