Job Description
NBC Bay Area and Telemundo 48 are looking for an experienced manager to lead our daily news operations and manage the department’s business needs. Applicants should have experience working closely with vendors; solve any logistical obstacles that are news-related and act as a liaison between News and other departments to maintain a smoothly operating news operation. Candidates will also work closely with the Vice President of News and finance managers to verify all news expenditures are in accordance with the news operating budget.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES
- Secure, maintain and replace equipment for all news gathering purposes
- Ensure photographers and multi-media journalists are properly trained in the operation of all equipment and live vans.
- Analyze and implement operating procedures to ensure the smooth operation of the news Department.
- Lead teams on remote and live production for daily news operation and special events
- Oversee and manage the news vehicle fleet and all equipment associated with those vehicles. That includes timely scheduling of vehicle repairs and the management of the Samsara Fleet application.
- Work closely with Engineering Department for the timely maintenance of news equipment including our mobile doppler radar.
- Take a leadership role when dealing with logistical problems concerning special projects and proper implementation of those projects
- Manage assigned environmental, health and safety modules for the news department
- Keep track of all news related expenses including all auto-pay subscriptions, payments to news vendors and management of property leases
- Work closely with the VP of News, Finance Manager, and the VP of Finance for the proper implementation of the annual news department’s operational budget.
- Work with all outside vendors for news-related issues
- Work closely with other area television stations to solve cross-station logistical issues.
- Perform quarterly accruals after analyzing expenses
- Maintain a balance sheet with news department’s expenses
- Maintain records of all news programming contracts and various vendor contracts
- Work closely with the Finance Manager for the timely payment of invoices
- Must be reachable to answer questions during off hours in cases of emergencies
Qualifications
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in news management
- Ability to work closely and collaboratively with managers and staff across departments
- Proven track record of ENG and technical expertise
- Excellent communication skills
- Can act decisively under stress and tight deadlines
- Ability to work flexible hours (including weekends) and to return to work in emergencies depending upon news coverage

Salary Range: $130,000 - $180,000 DOE
