Department Summary
The Automation Department at Guardant Health is working on scaling up the way samples are processed to increase throughput and make our tests more affordable and accessible to all.
You will be joining the Automation Software team that is responsible for developing software that integrates sample preparation robotics, liquid handlers, and other lab devices and creates a fully automated hands-free solution.
About the Role:
The software team is developing a stack of software micro-services that manage the lab flow and the patient test that needs to be performed. You will be building software functionalities for a frontend UI portal implemented using React components, and a backend REST API to retrieve test information from back-end services. You will also develop and integrate services that manage and control hardware devices such as robotic arms, and liquid handlers, as well as logic to maintain the lab test throughput.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- With the provided software requirement specifications, you will be joining a scrum team and will be working to develop, add, and enhance software functionalities across the full software stack.
- Write design specifications for the software functionality.
- Develop unit and integration testing.
- Present your work in software demo meetings to the team and the extended team.
Qualifications
- Students close or recently completed BS or MS in CS/EE, or a related field with programming experience.
- Solid level of Python programming.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of micro-services architecture and familiarity with Python-based web frameworks such as Fast-API, Django, or Flask.
- Knowledge of front-end development such as HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. Some experience developing React components is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of rational databases preferably PostgreSQL.
Additional Information
Hybrid Work Model: At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the hourly range for this full-time position is Undergraduate $29/hr., Graduate $34/hr., and Doctorate $42/hr. The range does not include benefits and, if applicable, overtime, bonus, commission, or equity.
Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. If you are selected to move forward, the recruiting team will provide details specific to the factors above.
Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
