Our Visual Field Technicians participate in delivering patient care effectively and receive and prepare patients for visual field testing. Cole Eye Institute is among the world’s most advanced eye center. Our retina team has some of the best clinical outcomes in the field and is passionate about leading the way in research and innovation for retinal diseases.
A caregiver in this position works 7:30am—4:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Check visual acuity and read current glasses prescription if applicable, record data in patient record, enter patient information into the automated visual field machine, perform proper visual field test as indicated by ordering physician.
Receive and prepare patients for exams or treatment to be performed by administering dilation drops after visual field testing is completed (if indicated by ordering physician).
Perform various clerical functions, including ensuring that the ordering physician has signed the appropriate testing order prior to performing the test and that the charge is captured correctly after the test is completed.
Maintain the physical environment of exam and procedure rooms by cleaning and stocking daily, assisting and maintaining appropriate supply of medications as needed and conducting basic maintenance.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High school diploma or GED.
One year in a medical environment with direct patient care contact.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Formal education or training in optometry and/or ophthalmology.
