TITLE:                                               Secondary School Teacher           

 

 

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:            Principal   

 

 

 

SELECTION:                                    The position is filled by the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools.    

 

 

 

SALARY:                                          Salary based on experience and education level per CBOE salary schedule, plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately
                                                         35% of direct compensation.  Harrison County Professional Salary Schedule

 

 

 

EMPLOYMENT:                                 200 days   

 

                                                                 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:                           The successful applicant for this position must possess and/or show evidence of the following:

 

     *Valid West Virginia Certificate in the area for which applying.

 

     *Strong academic background.

 

     *Demonstrates the ability to create a stimulating and motivating environment for  children.

 

     *Knowledge of how to use a variety of teaching strategies to effectively teach students with varying levels of ability in the subject matter to be taught.

 

     *Ability to communicate effectively throughclear, concise writing, free of spelling and grammatical errors, and through articulate verbal skills.

 

     *Proven ability to effectively deal with students of various abilities and proficiency in planning lessons to meet their needs.

 

     *Ability to understand and interpret test data in order to improve learning, confidence and morale of students.

 

     *Demonstrate knowledge of Effective School Research as it applies to the position for which applying.

 

     *Ability to maintain a cooperative working relationship with administration, staff, students and public.

 

     *Knowledge of the concepts contained in the curriculum of the particular subject matter to be taught.

 

     *Exhibits an understanding of principles needed to obtain positive classroom student behavior.

 

     *Knowledge and/or experience working with computers.

 

     *Ability to create a stimulating and motivating environment for students.

 

     *A combination of training and/or experience which would lead to successful employment in the area for which applying.

 

     *Any alterations to the aforementioned qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

Definition:

 

Provides a curricula required by the State of West Virginia

 
  1. Bases instruction on adopted curricula for the school.
  2. Demonstrates accurate and current knowledge in subject field.
  3. Develops appropriate lessons to teach instructional objectives.
  4. Employs a variety of instructional strategies to augment achievement.
  5. Utilizes content scope and sequence in planning.
 

 

 

    2.  Classroom Climate:

 

Definition:

 

Provides an atmosphere conducive to learning consistent with school/county mission.

 
  1. Follows established school discipline procedures which include the WV Student Code of Conduct.
  2. Establishes procedures and rules that enhance learning.
  3. Encourages students' attendance.
  4. Sets high positive expectations for student performance.
  5. Encourages and acknowledges individual student's accomplishments and appropriate behavior.
  6. Treats students in a fair and equitable manner.
  7. Accommodates individual learning differences.
  8. Creates and maintains an environment that supports learning.
  9. Communicate with parents.
 

 

 

     3.  Instructional Management Systems:

 

Definition:

 

Organizes teaching strategies to maximize the use of allocated instructional time to increase student learning.

 
  1. Prepares and implements lesson plans.
  2. Begins lesson or instructional activity with a review of previous material as appropriate.
  3. Has materials, supplies and equipment ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity.
  4. Introduces the instructional activity and specifies instructional objectives.
  5. Directs and adequately supervises students to be on task quickly at the beginning of each instructional activity.
  6. Presents reading, writing, speaking and listening strategies using concepts and language which students understand.
