Staff Scientist- Chemistry Process Development
10x GenomicsAbout the role
About the role:
10x is looking for an outstanding staff scientist to join the Process Development team and be responsible for development and transfer of new chemistries from concept to full implementation in a commercial manufacturing facility. This position works cross-functionally with the R&D Chemistry, Microfluidics, Molecular Biology, and Engineering teams, as well as, QC, Production, and Supply Chain. Candidates must have a broad working knowledge of organic, polymer, oligonucleotide, surface, other NGS related chemistries and associated analytical methods, and be able to creatively translate those principles to establish production processes at commercial scale. The successful applicant will have exceptional attention to detail and the ability to meticulously execute and analyze highly complex experiments. Previous industry experience successfully commercializing and supporting similar processes is essential.
Individuals applying for this position must be self-starters, strategic thinkers, action driven, flexible in changing direction and methods, thrive in a fast paced environment, excel at managing multiple priorities, succeed in communicating with all levels within the organization and provide immediate contribution.
What you will be doing:
- Develop, optimize, validate and implement a broad range of chemistry-based production processes from R&D into Manufacturing.
- Integration of these chemistries into various microarray or fluidic handling mechanisms.
- Develop a deep understanding of the interplay between chemistry, microfluidics, production processes, and molecular biology to assist in identifying the root cause of product deviations, troubleshoot them, and identify solutions.
- Experimentation to develop a deep understanding of the underlying reaction mechanisms and interactions, cause and effect, failure modes, guard band studies and optimization using DOE methodologies.
- Establish development plans to ensure robust manufacturing processes through use of FMEA and risk assessment, guardbanding, material selection, and QC strategy.
- Identify and optimize any compounding factors, such a temperature, environment, workflow, pressures, reagent concentrations that could impact the resulting product.
- Scale up and develop alternative production processes to meet demand as 10x Genomics continues to grow.
- Develop process QC methods to ensure processes are in control.
- Independently troubleshoot and resolve issues related to manufacturing processes, QC, and incoming material quality.
- Implement statistical process control tools.
- Verification that the output manufactured products meet all requirements.
- Communicate and present results clearly and contribute data for making critical design decisions through accurate record of experimental details, documentation, and presentations.
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Surface Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Process Chemistry or related field
- 5+ years of relevant experience in biotechnology or life science related industry.
- Strong process development experience demonstrating control of manufacturing processes through appropriate Process Design and QC methods.
- Ability to integrate a broad range of scientific and engineering disciplines.
- Ability to design meaningful experiments and in depth analysis of results. Experience using statistical tools, such as JMP, is beneficial.
- Ability to develop, validate and transfer processes to manufacturing or OEM vendors.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
- Ability to travel internationally as needed.
- Desire to be part of a rapidly evolving organization, with a compelling technology, and taking products and processes to the next level.
