SURGICAL ASSISTANT - PRN AT EVENDALE

SURGICAL ASSISTANT   Full-Time Employment  Position : Evendale, OH Hours : PRN   Position Purpose: Member of the peri-operative health care team, who, under the direct supervision of a surgeon, functions in the role of the Surgical Assist during surgical procedures.  The Surgical Assistant does not concurrently function as the Surgical Technologist, but functions interdependently with the operating surgeon.   Working Relationships Position reports to: ASC Clinical Manager   Interpersonal Relationships As a representative of FACILITY, all comments, attitudes, actions, and behaviors have a direct affect on the facility's image and perceptions of quality service. Interaction with patients, family members, physicians, referral sources, affiliating schools, visitors, etc. must be in a manner that is friendly, supportive, courteous, respectful, cooperative, and professional. This behavior should promote an atmosphere of teamwork congruent with facility standards and guidelines to promote positive relations, and set an example for the staff.   Position Requirements Licenses or Certifications: Successful completion of Operating Room Technician program.  Successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support Course preferred.   Education and Vocational Training Certification as a Surgical Assistant or verification of completion of a formal Surgical Assist Program.  Must provide written documentation of clinical proficiency in Surgical Assistant role by surgeon.   Experience Minimum 1 year experience in surgical assisting preferred.   Skills and Abilities

• Performs direct patient care activities in the peri-operative setting consistent with the ASC policies and procedures.
• Functions in the role of a Surgical Assist during operative procedures.
• Complies with safety and infection control procedures.
• Communicates and works cooperatively with other members of the health care team.

  Essential Position Responsibilities:  

• Delivers safe patient care as directed by the Registered Nurse and according to surgery center policy and procedure.
• Demonstrates ability to meet patient's and family's learning needs as identified in the plan of care.
• Assists the Registered Nurse with patient discharges.
• Demonstrates continued competence in treating, and caring for individuals based upon age-specific needs utilizing a developmental perspective.
• Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for position.

• Completes all documentation to ensure the availability of accurate and up to date information in accordance with established standards.
