Organization's Summary Statement:
The Department of Classics offers B.A. degrees in Latin, Latin and Greek, and Classical Humanities, as well as M.A. degrees in Latin and Latin and Greek. It enjoys close ties with the Department of History, which awards the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Ancient History, and with the Department of English, the program in Comparative Literature, the Department of Philosophy, and the Department of Art History and Archaeology. The University of Maryland is located four miles from Washington, D.C., and 32 miles from Baltimore, MD. The wider metropolitan area is home to many cultural and research institutions, including the Center for Hellenic Studies, Dumbarton Oaks, the Walters Art Gallery, the Library of Congress, and the Smithsonian Institution.
