Senior Director, Global Communications - Executive Communications

What you'll do...

The Senior Director, Communications – Executive Communications will serve as the enterprise executive communications lead and speechwriter for Walmart’s president and CEO. This leader will work directly with the CEO to shape content consistent with Walmart’s global narrative, will identify strategic platforms internally and externally on which to deliver this content, and will develop materials to support these activities including speeches, presentations, fact sheets, briefing materials, and more.

In addition, this leader will supervise a team of executive communications professionals who support Walmart’s C-suite corporate function business partners in Finance, People, Global Governance, Corporate Affairs, and Global Tech. Together with segment executive communications leads across the enterprise, this leader and team develop content strategies for major events, manage relationships with outside conference partners, identify executive speaking opportunities, and provide executive communications training. 

What you'll do:

• Work closely with the Chief Communications Officer and serve as a strategic communications counselor to Walmart’s CEO.

• Prepare speeches, presentations and talking points primarily for external audiences.

• Design executive communications plans and platforms that showcase Walmart leadership and expand awareness of Walmart’s strategy. You’ll work collaboratively with teammates across the Global Communications team to drive these plans forward.

• Apply creative ways to tell stories and determine the ways to reach and engage with target audiences.

• Continuously challenge and improve the effectiveness of communication efforts, and monitor and analyze communication activities to inform future decision making.

• Coach, staff and prepare top leaders for speaking engagements.

• Further develop and oversee an internal communications speaker training program.

• Utilize technology tools including GenAI to ensure you and your team operate effectively and efficiently.

• Nurture a world-class executive communications team with impact across the enterprise.

What you’ll bring:

• Confidence and expertise to coach senior leaders on speech and content delivery.

• Expert speechwriting ability with a background writing for CEOs and/or senior government officials.

• Proven people leadership.

• Exemplary communications skills and engaging executive presence.

• Masterful ability to make complex subject matter easily understood.

• Background in retail, eCommerce or tech industry storytelling.

• Experience working across organizations with global scale.

• A basic understanding and willingness to continue to learn and apply technology, Gen AI and agentic AI to your work.

• Portfolio that illustrates an innate ability to develop creative content in addition to clear, persuasive, compelling communications.

• Proven strategic planning and project management capabilities.

• You are a problem solver and critical thinker whose natural curiosity leads to continuous improvement.
