Food Service Aide

• Maintains sanitation of all assigned areas in kitchen, storage and receiving, and all other related food service areas as assigned. Maintains continuous clean working area including floors, walls, shelving, coolers, and service/preparation stations. Conducts food preparation in an organized, safe and sanitary fashion, while adhering to safe food handling skills. Transports food to classrooms within the Child Care Center. Stores and rotates food according to FIFO as required. Washes and sanitizes pots, pans, and utensils according to State sanitation regulations. Cleans and sanitizes all work areas. Discards food waste in a safe and sanitary manner.  Maintains health food handler certification from Paterson Board of Health.
• Receiver Responsibilities: Responsible for storeroom activities of ordering, receiving, storing, maintaining inventory of, and distributing food products and supplies for the department. Acts as a working leader in ordering all supplies (in conjunction with Director) and in issuing and delivering of all food/supplies.

1. Cleans/sanitizes cooking/serving utensils, small wares, and equipment as per regulatory standards. Utilizes drying racks properly.
2. Cleans/sanitizes/maintains refrigerators, freezers, carts, kitchen equipment, dry storage, cabinets, and other departmental areas as per regulatory standards.  Reports temperature/maintenance issues to Director. Cleans/sanitizes all work areas, sinks, ovens, and equipment.    
3. Accurately prepares carts and delivers to specified classrooms in a timely manner.
4. Places and rotates food in storage using established FIFO (First in, first out) rotation procedures as instructed. Appropriately disposes of food waste after supervisor evaluation for re-use. Assists with maintenance of all storage areas.
5. Operates dish machine and pot washing area according to established procedures. Uses appropriate temperatures and ppm for wash, rinse, and sanitizing, as instructed by state regulations.
6. Assists with maintenance of kitchen areas including, but not limited to restocking/replenishment, and sanitation. Maintains neatness of garbage areas.
7. Assists staff with basic prep work and cooking according to department and regulatory standards.
8. Receiver Responsibilities Receives/checks all incoming deliveries of food/supplies; addresses any corrections or production inquiries to Director. Orders provisions in conjunction with the Director.
9. Maintains storerooms, freezers, and refrigerators in an orderly, safe, and sanitary condition according to department and regulatory standards. Maintains files/reports for review by Director
10. Takes initiative to utilize goods to eliminate waste or expiration of products in the storeroom or refrigerators. Dispose of food waste after supervisor evaluation for use/re-use.
11. Responsible for maintaining all temperature logs as per dept. and regulatory standards.
12. Checks all incoming items for expiration dates.  Maintain expiration dates on all items.
13. Meets all required competencies for department, unit and/or hospital.
14. Responsible for performing all other duties as assigned.

  Special Projects

• Work requires the ability to read and understand written instruction and no previous experience, High School diploma or equivalent preferred plus three to six months on the job training and orientation. Certification preferred as a Food Handler from the City of Paterson or similar food safety certification. Work requires the analytical ability to read & understand instructions, add & subtract numbers, make comparisons between numbers and letters.
