Occ Summary
Assists in the administration and coordination ofthe technical activities of a scientific research laboratory. Assist the Scientific/Research Laboratory Manager in managing research project s,developing and administering budgets, schedules, and performance metri cs.Serve as an advisor to Research Associates, Lab Analysts, and Lab Tec hnicians insuring standard operating procedures and protocols are mainta ined and applied.
Work Performed
Evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare reports andanalyses setting forth progres s,adverse trends andappropriate recommendations or conclusions. Conferwi th principal investigator and Lab Manager in developing plans for resear ch projects and to discuss the interpretation of results and the prepara tion of scientific manuscripts for publication.
Develo p and implement laboratory policies and procedures. Manage and coordina te operational policies and procedures; coordinate with research staff on issues which impact laboratory functions.
Maintain l iaison with investigators, research personnel and staff to solve specifi c operating problems and improve technical activities.Advise on technica l procedures, techniques and equipment, and maintain conformance withspe cific operational standards.
Collect information and d atathrough observation, experimentation and various other methods,to in clude operating highly technical laboratory instruments and equipment.Prepare tissue and specimens for complex procedures, and devise experiment al techniques for tests and analyses.
Assist informula ting and implementing the short and long-range goals for the operationof the laboratory. Project future needs and formulate strategiesconsisten t with projections.
Manage and coordinate the activiti es of a project(s) with responsibility for results in terms ofcosts,meth ods, and laboratory resources required; coordinate and supervise theperformance of routine and specialized technical procedures inthe laborwork, procedures utilized and test results;coordinate the preparation oatory.
Prepare technical reports reflecting volume off repor ts and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends,and appropriate r ecommendations or conclusions.
Plan and conductmeeting s with laboratory personnel to ensure compliance withestablishedpractice s, to implement new policies and to keep employees abreast of current changes and standards.
Represent thelaboratoryin interac tions with other departments.
Assure the laboratory te chnicians and analysts are properly trained in Standard Operating Proced ures (SOP's) and equipment specificrequirements.
Prov ide guidance as requested regarding hiring and training for technical pe rsonnel. Supervise, train and instruct residents,interns,studentsorlow er levelpersonnelin laboratory techniques and procedures.

Conduct a variety of complex and independent investigations in the planning, development and implementation of original experimental proced ures and specialized laboratory techniques in the analysis ofmaterials u nder experimentation.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.
Experience
Work requires five years of research experience. A related master's OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience.
