Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Animal Care Supervisor 2 will conduct or assist with routine, emergency and critical veterinary care and animal husbandry activities for clinical or laboratory animal patients. May be involved in conducting or assisting with research and teaching projects. They will supervise and direct daily operations of the assigned animal research facilities, ensuring that animals receive proper husbandry and care, and that the facility is in compliance with regulations and guidance set by the department, the campus and governmental agencies. They will also provide supervision and training for the assigned staff.

The Animal Care Supervisor 2 receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and the process by which to meet goals. They will prioritize and complete on-going tasks independently following established departmental guidelines, University policies, and federal, state, & local regulations. They will recommend changes to department policies and practices as well as identify risks and respond accordingly.

Salary Range: $76,200 - $158,800 Annually

Job Qualifications

Required:
  • Associate degree in animal science or biological science with 4 years of related experience in a higher education setting, or a combination of equivalent education, training and experience.
  • Five (5) years of supervisory/management experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the standards and guidelines of the “Guide for the Care and
  • Use of Laboratory Animals and the Animal Welfare Act.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people of varying degrees of veterinary medical training, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, administrators, peers, and subordinates.
  • Ability to set priorities and work independently under conditions of fluctuating workloads. Required
  • Knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing agents and their proper application to ensure a clean and healthful environment.
  • Skill in handling a variety of animal species in a variety of situations
