Cleveland Clinic Akron General understands the concerns and needs of patients and families going through cancer. The experienced team of oncology and hematology cancer specialists work together with a multi-disciplinary team to take cancer treatment to the next level by treating the patient, not the disease, with both inpatient and outpatient care. By joining the team as a Radiation Oncology RN Specialist, you will deliver exceptional care throughout the patient care journey. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and their families, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed. By caring for patients going through radiation treatments, you play a big role in the care these patients receive during their cancer journey. 

A caregiver in this position works 4 8-hour shifts from 8:00AM – 4:30PM. No weekends or holidays will be required. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Collaborate with Radiation Oncologist, referring physicians and staff members to provide optimal care of patients and families. 

  • Obtain a history related to the patients chief complaint and assess the health status of patients scheduled to undergo Radiation Oncology treatments. 

  • Notify the responsible Radiation Oncologist and/or Radiation Therapist about findings and concerns needing attention prior to, during, and following treatment. 

  • Document patient care and effectiveness of interventions and treatments. 

  • Deliver direct care to patients as established in the patient's plan of care according to established policies, procedures and standards of care. 

  • Prepare patients and assist physicians with examination, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care. 

  • Administer medications to patients and accurately chart. 

  • Start, discontinue and monitor IV lines. 

  • Comply with all Radiation Oncology System (IMPAC) entry requirements for accurate patient charting, charges and tracking monitors as appropriate. 

  • Initiate new programs for patient care and patient/family education and reinforce patient and family teaching.
