Wayfair’s Specialty Retail Brands (AllModern, Birch Lane, Joss & Main) target the specialty furniture market and are incremental to Wayfair LLC.  These brands provide a tightly curated assortment of highly stylish and elevated quality products for the style-obsessed specialty customer.  

What You'll Do

In the Merchandising Manager role you will drive business success for two key Furniture categories for one of our Specialty Retail Brands. You will be responsible for driving merchandising strategies, implementation, and operational excellence in order to deliver best in class assortment to our customers, as well as collaborating with our supplier partners and internal stakeholders to drive our brand identity across all channels.

• Building and maintaining category assortment strategies for Bedroom and Accent, Entertainment & Home Office categories (owned by direct report); creating assortment plans on a category and SKU level
• Analyzing core business KPI’s and partnering closely with cross-functional teams and on inventory, merchandising, marketing, and profit management to drive business results
• Identifying business opportunities for category growth, utilizing competitive analysis and internal performance monitoring as data points
• Own the financial outcomes for the performance of the products you place in your assortment.  Regularly assess performance and revise assortment and shelf space allocation strategy as needed.  
• Driving relationships with key suppliers, partnering with them on product assortment, inventory planning, merchandising excellence, and negotiating discounts for inclusion in Wayfair programs such as major shopping holidays
• Hire, manage, and develop team of direct report(s) who will support category ownership 
• Contributing to Speciality Retail Brand success at large by championing merchant-dedicated efforts across the Casegoods space (e.g. internal alignments, tradeshow planning, etc.)
• Maintaining a pulse on core competitive trends and looks to support curation and category growth efforts
• Attending supplier meetings and trade shows and leading meetings with suppliers to communicate on business performance and opportunities

What You'll Need

• ~5+ years of experience within an e-commerce or corporate retail organization preferred. Preferably experience as a merchant or buyer
• Experience working in a highly cross-functional setting and managing external-facing relationships
• Experience with managing direct reports
• A strong interest in building a career in buying and/or supplier relationship management
• An interest in and/or eye for product. We are building tightly curated assortments on par with specialty retailers and need someone who can understand our brand and bring to life via our assortment
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• A personable and energetic communicator, eager to build relationships with new business partners - both internally and externally
• Ability to communicate and feel comfortable speaking directly with C-suite level suppliers from large companies
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at once; you don’t miss the details
• Ability to “hit the ground running” – a self-starter capable of achieving specific target goals
