Description
Wellness Equity Alliance (WEA) is a novel national public health organization comprised of a multidisciplinary team of population and public health experts with backgrounds in infectious disease, public health, emergency medicine, primary care, cardiology, pediatrics, psychiatry, community health work (CHW), nursing and advanced practice pharmacy. We work nearly exclusively with underrepresented communities, fundamentally addressing health-care disparities and the social determinants of health (SDoH) that have been amplified during the COVID-19 pandemic, prioritizing the following:
- People experiencing homelessness
- Indigenous communities
- Immigrant communities
- Rural communities
- BIPoC communities
- LGBTQIA+ communities
- Justice-impacted communities
The WEA team is diverse, inclusive, and nimble enough to assemble teams of healthcare professionals within days using our proven local staff recruitment models to address population health crises and communicable disease outbreaks. The WEA team’s partnership model is collaborative and allows hospitals, health jurisdictions, state/local government agencies to provide timely care using equity-based strategies for individuals and marginalized communities.

Wellness Equity Alliance is actively seeking compassionate and driven individuals for several pivotal roles in our groundbreaking Street Medicine program. Street Medicine is an innovative and compassionate approach to healthcare, designed to meet individuals experiencing homelessness right where they are: on the streets, in shelters, or within underserved communities. Working for WEA is more than a job; it's a calling to serve those who are most in need, directly in their environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Duties:
- Assist healthcare providers in conducting patient examinations, and treatments.
- Administer approved medications and vaccinations as directed by healthcare providers.
- Perform routine procedures such as taking vital signs, collecting specimens, and dressing wounds.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including medical histories and treatment plans.
- Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and maintain a clean and organized clinical environment.
- Provide patient education on various healthcare topics, including medication management, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices.
- Perform front office duties including appointment scheduling, appointment reminder calls, patient registration, insurance verification and medical record management
- Provide referrals both internally and externally to appropriate medical resources.
- Ensure exam rooms, equipment and supplies are clean and ready for patients
- Manage supplies and inventory
- Perform laboratory tests and collect specimens as ordered by physician
- Assist in prescription management including prescription refills and calling in prescriptions to the pharmacy
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations
- Manage patient flow and communicate delays to patients and physician
- Participate in street outreach efforts to provide medical care to individuals experiencing homelessness or living in underserved communities.
- Conduct health assessments and screenings in non-traditional settings such as shelters, encampments, and community centers.
- Administer basic medical treatments and first aid to address immediate healthcare needs.
- Collaborate with social workers, case managers, and community organizations to connect patients with additional support services such as housing assistance, substance abuse treatment, and mental health counseling.
- Advocate for the healthcare needs of marginalized populations and work to address systemic barriers to accessing care.

- Leadership and Team Management:
- Provide guidance and mentorship to medical assistant staff, including training on clinical procedures, best practices, and patient interaction.
- Coordinate schedules and assignments for medical assistant team members, ensuring adequate coverage for clinical and street medicine activities.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that prioritizes teamwork, professionalism, and patient-centered care.
- Serve as a liaison between medical assistants and healthcare providers, facilitating communication and problem-solving to ensure efficient patient care delivery.
