Ashley River Tower - 6 East

On ART 6 East, we believe in developing nurses through education, mentorship, and experience to provide safe, holistic care to the patients we serve.  ART 6 East is a surgical acute care unit located in the Ashley River Tower (ART) at the Medical University of South Carolina.  Our nurses enjoy an educational, collaborative work environment with all members of the care team including physicians, respiratory therapist, and other ancillary staff.    ART 6 East has an active shared governance group that has a voice in unit decisions.  You will also enjoy the benefits provided by being part of Magnet organization, which also includes the nurse residency program for all new graduate nurses. Our unit also works closely with our MSICU and rapid response teams through the use of the Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS) to monitor patients for changes in condition providing an introduction into critical care.  ART 6 East cares for patients recovering from Whipple’s, TIPS, splenectomies, cholecystectomies, Nissen Fundoplications, colectomies, cardiology, and general medicine patients.

Ashley River Tower - 6 West

Ashley River Tower (ART) 6 West is a 21-bed acute care unit providing comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of medical and surgical diagnoses. The unit routinely cares for patients admitted under general medicine, cardiology, as well as specialty services including GI surgery and surgical oncology. Additionally, 6W supports other services that are appropriate based on patient needs such as cardiothoracic surgery, plastic surgery, vascular surgery, and hematology/oncology. Nurses on ART 6W are trained in the use of a variety of clinical devices, tools, and techniques to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality care. Typical nurse to patient ratios ranges from 1:4 to 1:5. Our team thrives in a collaborative, educational environment that includes physicians, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, and other ancillary staff.
