As Corporate Director of Project Controls, you’ll lead the systems and strategies that ensure cost, schedule, and change are managed with precision and transparency from preconstruction through project delivery. In this high-impact role, you’ll shape enterprise-wide project controls functions that improve field execution, enhance forecasting accuracy, and reduce risk across all phases of work.

Reporting to the CFO and working closely with the CEO, you’ll work with operations, finance, legal, IT, procurement, and project teams across the company. As Shimmick’s top project controls leader, you’ll be responsible for developing  a project controls team and standardizing tools, policies, and processes that positively impact our field operations and performance

Responsibilities

The Corporate Director of Project Controls will lead and influence the following areas:

Cost Management:

  • Forecast project costs and revenues with precision
  • Track and analyze changes in real time to maintain accurate financial projections
  • Develop and maintain cost reports and budgets for new and ongoing projects

Change Management:

  • Identify changed conditions and ensure timely submission of contractual notifications
  • Lead pricing and schedule impact analysis for changes and claims
  • Support dispute resolution processes, including coordination with consultants and subject matter experts

Schedule Management:

  • Ensure compliant, timely schedule submissions that reflect project realities
  • Identify delays early and support mitigation efforts
  • Prepare Time Impact Analyses as needed

Technology and Systems Integration:

  • Standardize the use of project controls tools across the company, including document control, modeling, scheduling, and cost accounting platforms
  • Lead integration of emerging technologies, including AI and large language model (LLM)–based solutions
  • Ensure all tools and systems comply with local, regional, and federal cybersecurity and data protection protocols

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, construction management, economics, or a demonstrated equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience
  • Extensive experience in construction, performing project controls functions with 4 years of management responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous heavy civil construction project experience
  • Strong background in scheduling and cost reporting tools
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage changing deadlines and work well under pressure for multiple team leaders
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks effectively
  • Highly organized with excellent time management and communication skills

Additional Information:

  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
  • The position is based in our corporate headquarters in Irvine, CA, hybrid, or remote within the U.S., and requires time spent at project sites, corporate offices, and associated travel. We will work with the candidate to establish a schedule that incorporates remote and hybrid work options tailored to each individual’s needs

The salary range for this position is between $220,000-$270,000 depending on experience and/or education.
