This is a professional position that works in the Escambia County School-based Sealant Program (EC-BSP). The position is supervised under general supervision by the dentist(s) at the Department of Health’s State Health Office Public Health Dental Program under an approved protocol to provide assessments, screenings, dental charting, dental sealants, fluoride application, oral health education, and caries risk assessments. Completes a letter home to the parent/guardian and calls the parent/guardian of any child with urgent dental care needs. This position requires daily in-office or field work. 

Completes patient eligibility and enters patient information in the Department’s Health Management System (HMS). Documents dental charting and patient notes and stores in the Department’s HMS or electronic oral health system. Enters all provided services in HMS for billing. Completes required reports for the Department, insurance, and funding requirements.

Prints all dental forms; works with the local school system to promote the EC-BSP; disseminates informational fliers and consents; retrieves and reviews the consents; contacts the parent/guardian to review serious medical conditions and consults with supervising dentist; schedules times at each school to provide services, loads and transports equipment, instruments, and supplies in state vehicle; and sets up in designated area to provide services; packs all items and transports to the next treatment location. Orders and maintains appropriate amounts of supplies and printed paperwork.

Maintains appropriate sterilization and disinfection per federal, state, local and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines. Participates in the school and Department’s safety programs and observes all safety measures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Reports all accidents and near misses, corrects any safety issue in the area. Ensures all patient treatment is performed in an aseptic environment.

Responsible for maintaining all information sets with the purpose of protecting confidentiality, data integrity, and appropriate access for all information, both confidential and public record, which is stored electronically or in paper form. Reports any data breach per Department guidelines. Completes all required training, completes employee activity records, attends the dental director/program manager statewide performance meeting. Maintains clear and active dental hygiene license. In-state travel required.
