Student Life | Well Being and HealthThe Director is the chief administrative officer of the Department of Recreational Sports at The Ohio State University, one of the largest universities in the country. The Director provides visionary leadership; champions and communicates department mission, vision, values, and strategic direction; responsible for developing a facility master plan while providing oversight of all Recreational Sports facilities, grounds and programs; manages a budget of over $20,000,000; builds and maintains collaborative relationships with university leaders and student leadership groups; serves as an advocate for both present and future recreation and wellness needs of students, faculty, staff, and affiliate members; provides guidance and advocacy for the student recreation fee; serves on and leads campus-wide committees; represents the department, Student Life and The Ohio State University in national professional associations, surrounding communities, and other university departments. The Director also works closely with the Department of Human Sciences, Student Wellness Center, Athletics and Facilities Operations and Development to collaborate as building occupants in the best interest of the facility and all users. Further, the director works collaboratively with other units in the SL Associate Vice President of Health & Wellbeing portfolio as well as all other SL units to promote student development and enhance the student experience; provides advocacy and leadership for core recreational programming operations including informal recreation, fitness services, competitive sports, outdoor adventure, and community programs while providing collaborative wellness programming for the university community. The Director internally leads a team committed to a vision as leaders in developing lives of balance, physical activity, and well-being. Additional Information:
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 10 years of relevant experience required.
Desired Qualifications:
15 or more years of relevant experience and advanced degree may be required.
Demonstrated experience directly managing full-time professional staff and a large-scale professional staff team. Additionally, extensive experience working with or leading a large comprehensive recreation program and varied student staff, including both graduate and undergraduate students in a wide range of roles.
Demonstrated experience providing oversite for a complex budget, with distinct revenue-generation streams (e.g., student fees, memberships, rentals) and general fee support; documented experience directing comprehensive operations, risk management, and capital maintenance of a multi-facility footprint.
Active involvement in national professional organizations supportive of professional development in recreation and wellness.
