Job Description
NREL’s Site Operations office is looking for an experienced Manager for its Mechanical Maintenance group. The main requirement is to ensure the state of readiness and safety of NREL’s facilities, mechanical equipment and infrastructure through regular preventative maintenance, repair, and management across NREL’s campuses. Provide significant input and analysis to the Site Operations Center Director and other senior managers affecting the strategic direction of facility maintenance activities including staffing and development of the facility preventative maintenance program.
Job Responsibilities include:
Manage and supervise the mechanical maintenance technicians and their work.
Assign tasks to staff, monitor performance, and manage the workflow of mechanical preventative maintenance services.
Develop staff training and qualifications program to ensure facility readiness and anticipate future maintenance needs.
Counsel, mentor, and coach staff. Address instances of poor staff performance in a timely manner and appropriately document.
Conduct staff performance reviews and actively participate in annual salary reviews.
Responsible for facility mechanical infrastructure and equipment including preventative and corrective maintenance, maintenance on-call program, and equipment installations.
Work effectively with acquisition services to award maintenance service subcontracts and purchase orders as necessary, act as Technical Monitor, and manage related purchasing and contracts activities.
Plan and manage all maintenance activities including analyzing equipment needs, reliability issues, develop preventative maintenance programs, and ensure all mechanical maintenance activities are conducted safely by the maintenance team.
Responsible for updating facility database systems (e.g., FAMIS and CAIS) as necessary.
Interact with facility and research customers to ensure maintenance work is coordinated with research activities and completed in a timely manner.
Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to help ensure optimal facility maintenance program.
Review facility and maintenance designs and cost estimates and manage work as appropriate.
