Job Description
Are you ready for a thrilling opportunity to work as a Network Automation Engineer? Join our team at Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where you will play a crucial role in providing advanced networking solutions and support to institutional and flight customers. As a Network Automation Engineer, you will engineer innovative tools and automation solutions, tackle operational complexities, and ensure seamless network connectivity for mission-critical systems within our campus and with our business partners.
Responsibilities:
Engineer tools and automation solutions to resolve operational complexities and proactively identify network roadblocks.
Implement change and documentation standards to maintain a streamlined network infrastructure.
Identify gaps in best practice configurations and find resolutions to complex network issues.
Ensure resilient network connectivity for mission-critical systems within campus and with our business partners.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related discipline with a minimum of 6 years of experience, or relevant Master's/PhD degree with fewer years of experience. Additional experience in lieu of degree is acceptable.
Strong multidisciplinary knowledge in network engineering and operations.
Experience with performance tuning, monitoring, and/or operations of relational databases.
Hands-on experience with scripting for repetitive-task automation (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash/Shell, etc.).
Working knowledge of at least one programming language such as Python, Shell, Bash, Perl, Java, API, Ansible, JSON, SOAP, Ruby, or REST.
5+ years of experience in installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting WANS and networking technologies.
3+ years of experience with network firewall technologies and security appliances.
Working knowledge of LANs, WANS, and networking technologies.
Practical knowledge of protocols including OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, MPLS, VRF, IPSEC, QOS, DNS, VTP, Broadcast, Multicast, and GRE.
Familiarity with Layer 2 interconnect technologies such as L2VPN and EVPN/VXLAN.
Practical working knowledge of Juniper, Cisco, F5, Palo Alto, and Pulse Secure technologies.
Experience with cloud (AWS and Azure) networking and interconnects, transit gate, direct connect, and VPC peering.
Real-world understanding and application of advanced principles, theories, concepts, and techniques in network and communications engineering.
Knowledge of applicable industry and/or academic practices and standards in LANs, telecommunication interfaces, network switch, routing protocols, and network services applications.
Ability to perform problem identification, reporting, and resolution tasks.
Knowledge of applicable industry and/or academic practices and standards in Virtual Private Networks.
Current Cisco Certified Network Professional Certification or Juniper Networks Certified Internet Associate desirable.
Desired Skills:
Extensive experience gathering requirements from different business units, stakeholders, and engineering teams.
Recent experience in systems engineering applied to computing or network architectures (e.g., handling requirements gathering to structured implementation like SDLC).
Demonstrated achievement in developing breakthrough solutions for challenging technical problems.
Cross-functional Network Project Management experience is a plus.
The salary range for this role takes into account a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $120-160K.
