Personnel Security Representative

About the role

Argonne National Laboratory has an opportunity for a talented Personnel Security Representative within the Security and Travel Services (STS) Division. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing and processing applicants for uncleared Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credentials in accordance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12) as well as processing applicants for security clearances.  In this role you will provide professional assistance and guidance to all Argonne personnel while complying with policies and requirements in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. You will be required to utilize various types of software for processing and to compile and generate reports, spreadsheets, and statistics.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Processes Standard Form (SF) 85 of all uncleared PIV applicant requests.
  • Reviews all packages for accuracy and completeness, works with applicants to correct discrepancies and initiates follow up actions as necessary.
  • In accordance with the HSPD-12 serves as a certified PIV Sponsor for federal and contractor personnel.
  • Processes all HSPD-12 PIV badge expirations and submits renewals.
  • Serves as the back-up to the Personnel Security Coordinator in processing clearance requests to include, but not limited to, initials, transfers, reinvestigations, contract changes, and upgrades.
  • Assists in the development, administration, and update of procedures.
  • Ability to follow prescribed process as defined by DOE Order 472.2A and to prioritize and organize tasks and maintain a rigid schedule of processing all applicants. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Position Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret (Q) security clearance. 
  • Verbal communication skills and the ability to deal in a tactful, sensitive and cheerful manner with varied levels of internal contacts. 
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality for the purpose of protecting individuals` personally identifiable information. 
  • Proficiency in typing and experience with computer word processing. 
  • Punctuality is essential, and incumbent is responsible for maintaining an acceptable attendance record.
  • To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract.
  • Knowledge of DOE/ANL policies and procedures relating to personnel security program is preferred but not required.
