Primary Function:
The position will assist the Director of Food Safety to develop, implement and maintain the Food Safety and Quality Programs (FSS) to support the Food Safety Operations team. These programs include pest control, sanitation, training, environmental monitoring, and other tools and programs to improve the food safety management system. This includes helping to maintain the required SOPs, work instruction, guidelines, and documentation to support the program. The role will require a high level of responsibility, accountability and critical thinking, with attention to detail and ability to act quickly as needed.
This role will help support the traceability and recall process when needed and required. Act as a backup and provide food safety coverage to assigned facilities as needed. This role will also support the organic program and provide backup when needed.
This position will act as the back-up for the Director of Food Safety in their absence.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist the Director of Food Safety in providing support to other departments and teams (Marketing, procurement, sales, ) to provide guidance and support on food safety programs.
- Help the Director of Food Safety to develop, implement, maintain, review and continuously improve comprehensive corporate driven FSS.
- Under the guidance of the Director, acts as SQF Practitioner and PCQI for the corporate office and as a backup, when necessary, to any other Mastronardi owned facility
- Continuously research, identify and evaluate best practices, and establish new resources, tools and methodologies to maximize effectiveness of the FSS.
- This position will provide support to the managers and coordinators in the Farms and Distribution Centers (DCs).
- This role will help support the Director of Food Safety in working with internal and external groups to assist with addressing critical food safety and quality issues and to promptly bring them to resolution.
- Will act as the back-up for the Director of Food Safety in their absence
- Conduct routine checks to verify proper recordkeeping by Operations Staff for Food Safety System and Organics Compliance Plan
- Developing and maintaining food safety programs includes pest control, training, SSOPs, environmental monitoring, and sanitation programs and This position will be responsible for development, implementation and sustaining of these programs across the organization.
- Help assist in developing sampling programs by working with the Lab Manager and the Operation
- Assist in providing support on new products and programs the company is
- This position will assist the Farms and DCs in preparing for and completing their audits and may be assigned to conduct audits, assessments and follow-up as needed.
- Must maintain confidentiality of all proprietary information, as well as other Company data, including personnel information
- Support Sales, Finance, Executive Management and any other duties as needed to maintain KPI data and report to
- As a program supervisor within the food safety team, you will be required to be contacted and available after hours to address emergencies and technical issue for a 24 x 7 distribution operation.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Education/Background Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in agricultural, food sciences, or related field required; with a minimum of two (2) to five (5) years' experience in the food industry
- Two (2) to five (5) years’ experience in food safety with a focus on developing and building food safety management systems and programs. (Sanitation, pest control, bio-security. Etc.)
- REHS/Sanitarian license or certification
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Must have strong attention to detail with ability to respond and take action as
- Willingness to maintain confidentiality and protect proprietary information and company
- Strong understanding of Sanitation principles to build and develop a sanitation This would include experience working with third party sanitation providers.
- Experience with conducting traceability and recall exercises.
- Experience with the USDA NOP and CFIA COR Organic certification processes.
- Experience working with pest control providers and developing comprehensive pest control
- Experience in auditing facilities and ability to help support facilities in preparing for audits, conducting audits and successfully leading
