About the role

Position Summary:  The Transportation Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of transportation vehicles and equipment. This role ensures that all vehicles are in safe and operational condition, adhering to company standards and regulatory requirements.  Roles & Responsibilities: 
  • Budget Management: Monitor and manage the maintenance budget for transportation, ensuring cost­ effective solutions and adherence to financial constraints. Responsible for negotiating repair pricing and invoicing with 3PL providers. Has financial authority to approve invoices for payment 
  • Schedule and Coordinate Maintenance: Develop and implement maintenance schedules for all transportation vehicles and equipment to ensure timely and efficient repairs. 
  • Inspect Vehicles: Conduct regular inspections of vehicles to identify and address any issues or potential hazards. 
  • Manage Inventory: Maintain inventory of spare parts and supplies, ensuring availability for repairs and maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections. 
  • Vendor Management: Coordinate with external vendors for specialized repairs and services as needed. 
  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency maintenance requests and ensure quick resolution to minimize downtime. 
  • Participate in the hiring interview for drivers when available. 
  • Ensures compliance with all company, DOT and government safety and sanitation requirements. 
  • Keeps management informed of progress and proposed changes in the operation. 
  • Other duties as assigned 
 Job Requirements:   Education: This position requires a high school diploma with additional supervisory training courses. In the absence of formal education, experience that is equivalent and directly related may be substituted. Experience: This position requires 3 or more years related supervisory experience with a proven track record in transportation and delivery operations. Position must also have two to three years' experience in dispatch and routing. Knowledge: Position requires knowledge of tractors, refrigerated trailers, dry vans, containers, TMS, traffic systems and DOT rules and regulations. Position requires knowledge of personal computers and associated business software (MS-Word, Excel, and Access preferred). Also, knowledge of electronic log devices and driver tablets. Skills and Abilities: Position requires a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of management and staff. Good team building and facilitation skills, demonstrated by the performance of assigned teams, are also required. Must be willing to travel on a frequent basis.  Other Qualifications: 
  • Must be able and willing to travel by air or ground to other company locations to inspect vehicles or render guidance on compliance recordkeeping, inventory management, etc.
  • Must maintain a CA (or other state) driver’s license in good standing.
