UAS Systems Integration Engineer

DroneUp is seeking a UAS Systems Integration Engineer to manage and refine the systems and tools that keep our drones connected to our IT infrastructure and allow them to perform their operations seamlessly. This role encompasses responsibility for software on various drone embedded computers as well as our backend components hosted on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The candidate will hold a panoramic view of the networking aspect of our distributed drone delivery stack, supporting, monitoring, and maintaining the infrastructure, associated systems, and processes. This role demands an individual who can innovate while maintaining a focus on security and scalability, is comfortable using data to devise and execute large-scale projects, and can enhance reliability across our solutions.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary liaison between the Hardware Innovation Project and the IT Operations Team, facilitating communication and ensuring smooth integration of initiatives
- Develop, scale, and document new applications, engaging with various stakeholders across Product Management, Software- & Systems Engineering and Information Technology, to address their growth challenges
- Work within DroneUp's various cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS) to coordinate and manage daily project tasks and resources, including troubleshooting issues and outages
- Devise and implement new systems, assessing and testing software and other technical changes to meet DroneUp's unique needs
- Design, build, and maintain the networking infrastructure for unmanned aircraft, while working with other networking resources to integrate connection into DroneUp’s overall networking ecosystem
- Monitor systems performance, generating reports to keep management informed
- Respond promptly to change control requests, service outages, and service requests, acting as a technical escalation resource for the team
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation of related systems and implementations
- Uphold accountability for delivering thoroughly tested, secure technologies aligned with DroneUp's vision and strategy
- Provide clear analysis, troubleshooting, and consultancy to both clients and vendors
- Stay current with the latest and emerging technologies, integrating them where beneficial
- Assist hands-on to ensure timely and accurate completion of projects and initiatives, including deployments
- Procure necessary hardware, software, and other IT-related equipment
- Perform any other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in IT systems integration, preferably with exposure to drone technology
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like Azure, GCP, AWS
- Practical experience in networking, including planning, building, and maintaining network infrastructure
- Familiarity with managing, monitoring, and troubleshooting systems performance
- Prior experience in project management and coordination
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in one or more programming/scripting languages such as Python, Java, C++, or Shell scripting
- Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies
- Knowledge of data security standards and network security best practices
- Solid understanding of cloud architecture and services
- Familiarity with tools and practices for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to act as a liaison between different teams and effectively communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
- Certifications (Preferred but not required): AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect, or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect
- Network certifications such as CCNA or CompTIA Network+
- Security certifications such as CISSP or CompTIA Security+
- Experience in the drone or unmanned aerial systems (UAS) industry is highly desirable
- Willingness to continuously learn and stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends
