Job Overview

The Facilities Intern at Macy’s, Inc. is an entry-level position with duties in project management and related financial management. These duties encompass budgeting, issuing commitments and contracts, as well as coordinating related projects. The intern collaborates with project owners, vendors, and accounting services to ensure all capital projects and associated paperwork adhere to established standards, policies are followed, projects stay on budget, and assets are reported timely and accurately. This includes defining scope, reviewing vendor proposals, and analyzing bids. Additionally, the intern is accountable for budget tracking and project closeout. The position involves direct collaboration with project team members, including facilities executives, regional directors, store technicians, and operations managers, to develop the project framework from inception to completion. Other duties are performed as assigned.

What You Will Do

  • Oversee project management, financial administration, and task execution, managing multiple projects and coordinating with facility management vendors.
  • Network and provide support to the facility organization and partner departments, including Stores, Purchasing, Energy, Risk Management, Asset Protection, and Operations.
  • Manage and ensure the follow-through of financial commitments.
  • Coordinate with the Facilities team and stores to complete all facility-related store projects, covering infrastructure, energy, customer-facing, environmental, etc.
  • Drive strategic initiatives aimed at developing, refining, and improving facilities management operations.
  • Collaborate with stores, division and regional partners, as well as vendors.
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.

Skills You Will Need

Project Management: Ability to oversee and manage multiple projects, including coordinating with facility management vendors, ensuring tasks are executed efficiently, and projects stay on budget.

Financial Management: Proficiency in budgeting, issuing commitments and contracts, as well as tracking financial commitments. Accountability for budget management and ensuring project closeout.

Collaboration and Networking: Strong collaboration skills to work with project owners, vendors, accounting services, facilities executives, regional directors, store technicians, and operations managers. Networking abilities to support the facility organization and partner departments.

Analytical and Strategic Thinking: Capability to define project scope, review vendor proposals, and analyze bids. Drive strategic initiatives to develop, refine, and improve facilities management operations.

Time Management and Dependability: Effective time management skills to meet project deadlines and maintain regular, dependable attendance and punctuality.

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Engineering or a related field. Prior work experience a plus. 
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to draft reports and other communications; present to management and internal and external business partners; interpret technical documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percent; draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to carry out instructions given in written, oral, and diagram form; solve problems involving several concrete variables in practical situations.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
