This position is to serve as the Assistant Warden of Operations (Senior Public Service Administrator Option 7) for the IL Department of Corrections at Vandalia Correctional Center.

Essential Functions

• Provides input into the development, establishment, and implementation of institutional rules, regulations, directives, policies, and procedures of the institution to ensure proper operation of the daily functions.
• Plans, organizes, and directs the overall Operations functions and their managers, including security, physical plant operations, dietary services, individuals in custody discipline, and other miscellaneous logistical support services.
• Serves as full line supervisor.
• Conducts routine and unscheduled safety, health, sanitation, and security inspection tours throughout the institution.
• Serves as Chair of the Adjustment Committee, including making decisions on disciplinary problems including infractions of institutional rules by individuals in custody.
• Travels to various locations to attend management meetings, trainings, and to speak to lay and professional groups regarding the institution programs.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in law enforcement, criminology, penology, or a related field.
• Requires four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a law enforcement public or private organization, a correctional facility, or related field.

Conditions of Employment

 

• Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
• Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
• Requires ability to qualify with firearms within twelve (12) months of start date, and annually thereafter in accordance with agency directive and state or federal laws.
• Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
• Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
