JOB SUMMARY: Medical Physics Resident will undergo two years of structured hands-on clinical training and didactic courses covering all aspects of radiation oncology physics. Residents will participate in general clinical coverage of our clinical systems; VMAT/IMRT, IGRT, SBRT/SRS, HDR/LDR, TBI/TSE and Gamma Knife. This position requires a medical physics PhD individual who has excellent interpersonal skills, strong motivation in clinical medical physics, IT experience, and a desire to work in a dynamic environment. This position will rotate amongst our academic medical center, located at the Winston campus which has 4 linear accelerators, a Gamma Knife center that delivers >400 treatments a year, a state-of-the-art dedicated brachytherapy suite, GE wide-bore CT, PET/CT and 3T MRI scanners all located and staffed within the department - GE AW workstations, MIM, MOSAIQ, and multiple radiation treatment planning systems, and our community-based hospitals, and the Levine Cancer Institute at Atrium Health, at all times under the direct supervision of an experienced board-certified clinical medical physicist.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Graduate Degree in Physics or similar field of study (PhD preferred). Prior work with applications such as MOSAIQ, RaySearch, Pinnacle, Monaco, MIM, Sun Nuclear applications is preferred.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Graduate degree from a CAMPEP-accredited institution with certificate is preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – TRAINING TO INCLUDE:
- Daily departmental support to maintain complex bioinformatics software and systems including MOSAIQ, EPIC, MIM Vista, Raysearch Treatment Planning System, including the interfaces between the systems and performance of upgrades for these systems.
- General clinical coverage (plan, chart and R/V review, independent calculations, treatment inquiries including knowledge of the systems above.
- QA procedures (IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, output factors, instrumentation, daily/monthly/annual LINAC QA, RTP QA, daily/monthly/annual QA of special procedure systems).
- Obtain and provide planning and treatment assistance for: 3D conformal EBRT, VMAT/IMRT, SBRT/SRS, HDR/LDR, TBI/TSE and Gamma Knife.
- Support of clinical research projects/protocols.
- Establish and maintain image transfers for brachytherapy procedures (OnCentra) and work towards establishing connectivity with MOSAIQ.
- Radiation safety training/procedures.
- Work with IT support to create and update crystal reports within MOSAIQ
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Microsoft Windows workstation administration, Windows network printing configuration
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong motivation in medical physics, computer competency related to medical systems
- Ability to work in a dynamic team environment
