FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: CBS and SED Waiver Manager
Positions Supervised: None Amount of Travel Required: 70%; Shawnee County
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday
Varied hours between 7 am to 7:30 pm; must be able and willing to adjust work schedules based on their clinical caseload and the needs of individual clients.
Position Summary
Parent support staff provides training and support necessary to ensure engagement and active participation of the family in the treatment process.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides training to family members to increase their ability to provide a safe and supportive environment for the Client.
- Provide family support groups and individual sessions which provide support, training and education for family members regarding living with a Client with mental illness.
- Develop and enhance family member problem solving skills, coping mechanisms, and strategies for behavior management.
- Assist family members in understanding the serious emotional disturbed (SED) waiver process and mental health service system.
- Train family members in diagnosis, interpreting choice of providers, and understanding policies and procedures of FSGC.
- Participate in internal and external networking activities designed to increases the likelihood of meeting the client and family’s identified needs.
- Complete clinical documentation (progress notes, etc.) in a timely fashion. Parent Support Specialists are also expected to stay informed of agency developments by reading memorandums and other agency related written communication.
- Respect and demonstrate ability to maintain client confidentiality.
- Act as an ambassador of Family Service and Guidance Center in the community setting. This may include doing public educational and informational presentations.
- Supports and actively promotes the vision and mission of Family Service and Guidance Center and the philosophy of the strengths perspective.
- Other duties as assigned by respective manager or supervisors.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensure:
- High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of education/experience in a human service field
- Must be 21 years of age
- Valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, a good driving record and a reliable vehicle are required.
- Must successfully pass the KBI, SRS Central Registry and all other background investigations.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with children and families
- Prefer experience working with serious emotional disturbance (SED) population in professional or personal setting
