A Day in the Life as a Senior Center Food Service Assistant :

As a Senior Center Food Service you’ll be responsible for making sure food is received, prepared and served to our participants while maintaining health and safety standards for food handling, preparation and packing. Your day will involve: 

  • Receive delivered meals, check all food to maintain food temperature per food safety regulation
  • Prepare and serve meals using food safety standards
  • Wash, rinse and sanitize all pans and equipment that are used in the kitchen
  • Assists with set up, and clean up in the congregate dining area
  • Assists with inventory and stocking of items as needed

Your role will directly contribute to a positive participant experience, as a Senior Center Food Service Assistant you are able to help support our participants who receive Meals on Wheels and come into the center for a congregate dining meal.

Requirements

Qualifications to Be a Senior Center Food Service Assistant: 

To excel in this role, you’ll need: 

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalency credential
  • Experience: One year of experience in commercial kitchens or equivalent food service experience
  • Skills: Good verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate with staff and volunteers
  • Characteristics: Ability to work both independently and in a team environment as needed
  • Physical: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to perform moderate physical activity with regular kneeling, stooping, bending, or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. Requires lifting and moving up to 25 pounds, 50 pounds with another person. Pushing and pulling food carts up to 100 pounds.

Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license are required, as some travel within the community may be necessary.
