Location: Primary Care AssociatesPosition: Certified Medical Assistant
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is normally the first clinical staff to provide preliminary medicalservices to patients of Primary Care Associates. This position utilizes strong communication skills togather information and data from the patient that will provide the physician, nurse practitioner, orphysician assistant with the information necessary to begin the treatment and care of the patient. TheCMA also is the initial clinical contact for any patient seeking prescription refills outside the designatedappointment or patients contacting the office with medical questions. This individual must possess astrong desire for excellent patient care and the best outcomes.
The CMA is responsible for taking patient orders from the provider and making sure that all requests forthe patient are organized and processed promptly.
This position collaborates with other ancillary departments, other medical facilities, and other medicaloffices for communications needed for patient care.

Responsibilities
- Performs nursing procedures under the supervision of a licensed physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant
- Updates and maintains patient flow sheets within the EMR to document quality measures, initiates orders for needed testing as defined by the practice
- Escorts patients to exam rooms, interviews patients for visit information
- Obtains patient vital statistics and records them into the EMR
- Documents the patient’s chief complaint, family social history, personal history, medications, and any other pertinent data into the EMR
- Performs EKG, PFT, injections, Holter Monitor set-ups, blood pressure checks, ear washes, and other duties as the legal scope of practice allows
- Assists provider with in-office surgeries
- Provides patient education and instructions as directed by the provider
- Answers and documents patient telephone calls regarding prescription refill requests then informs the provider and notifies the pharmacy and patient after the determination is made by the provider
- Answers and documents all patient calls in the EMR, conveys the information to the provider, and responds promptly to the patient per the direction of the provider
- Triage and process messages from the patients, front office staff, other medical offices, and other care facilities
- Maintains logs and required checks (i.e., vaccines, refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, controlled medications, etc.)
- Provides other duties as assigned by the nursing supervisor, administrator, physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.
Knowledge & Education
- Graduation from an accredited entity is preferred. National / State certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is required. Consideration will be given for multiple years of experience and individuals grandfathered as a CMA.
Skills
- Experience with EMR (specifically Greenway- PrimeSuite)
- Strong command of medical terminology
- Excellent verbal communication
- Exceptional customer service and telephone etiquette
- Ability to maintain an effective and organized work system and workstation to optimize patient care and flow
- Experience in Primary Care preferred
- Excellent grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Physical Requirements
- Lifting 10 lbs. or less regularly
- Lifting 50 lbs. or more minimally as required with patient mobility needs
- Pushing and pulling performed often
- Standing constantly
- Pushing patient wheelchair occasionally
- Walking frequently
- Sitting on occasion
