The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Government Affairs Senior Associate provides senior-level professional support to the Legislative Affairs team, assisting with the planning and implementation of WWP’s legislative and advocacy operations, to advance WWP’s mission and vision. The Government Affairs Senior Associate analyzes and reports on federal legislative and regulatory matters, develops and communicates WWP’s public policy positions, identifies new, timely opportunities to communicate the impact of WWP programs and services, and works to bolster relationships with legislative representatives, nonprofit organizations, and internal and external partners and stakeholders.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with the Government Affairs team to develop and execute federal advocacy initiatives based on WWP mission and priorities.
Build and enhance strategic and collaborative relationships to advance WWP advocacy priorities and inform on WWP public policy positions. Establish networks and coalitions with external stakeholders and influencers, e.g., government, non-profit organizations, and others, to advance WWP public policy positions.
Support Government Affairs Directors to develop and execute strong, well-designed advocacy campaigns for high-priority policy initiatives at the federal and state levels, and specifically tailored to the issue to maximize success.
Attend hearings, meetings, and forums to network and provide advocacy for WWP priorities. Provide written analysis and recommendations to Government and Community Relations team.
Represent WWP at key events, meetings, discussions, hearings, and conferences.
Collaborate with the GCR Communications team to develop internal communications to raise awareness of Government Affairs team activities with all stakeholders.
Coordinate engagements, working groups, roundtables, and meetings at the national and grassroots level.
Assist with management of external resources and vendors who are supporting WWP advocacy efforts.
Establish working relationships with WWP teammates to advance the mission and advocacy priorities and inform them about WWP public policy positions. Coordinate cross-organizational communication with WWP program management to support and inform on policy initiatives.
Coordinator with Community Partnerships and Investments team, informing them on advocacy-related grants and projects.
Analyze and report clearly and concisely on federal legislative and regulatory matters of interest to WWP.
Develop community support for WWP. Present WWP vision and values to the community, effectively communicating WWP’s history, mission, and vision, and the benefits of WWP programs and services, and inspire them to become involved with and support WWP.
Attend and actively participate in required training and/or meetings, including but not limited to New Teammate Orientation, WWP Cares, ASIST Suicide Prevention training, Leadership training, culture/team based training, or departmental huddles.
Other duties as assigned.
