JOB SUMMARY:
The Histology Grossing Technician II performs various duties to include gross examination of tissue
specimens, functioning independently under direction of the Pathologists.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Assist in preparing tissue specimens for gross examination; and accessioning, if necessary.
• Submit and dictate all surgical specimens for processing.
• Maintain and keep cutting area properly supplied and clean.
• Discard routine tissue specimens per company protocol.
• Work closely with the Histology Supervisor to implement any new procedures.
• Review and study under pathologist guidance designated continuing education material.
• Submit and dictate all surgical specimens for processing in accordance with Gross Technician II
training protocols.
• Perform tissue transfer procedure on pre-grossed surgical specimens.
• Perform and coordinate all processor loading procedures and protocols.
• Assist in the training of Gross Technician I and Gross Technician II for all grossing procedures and
protocols.
• Assist in the training of Gross Technician I and Gross Technician II for all processor loading
procedures and protocols.
• Work closely with the PA and Histology Managers to implement any new procedures and provide
recommendations for quality and procedural improvement.
• Exercise all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure
manuals.
• Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry’s best security practices and regulatory
guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information
and other sensitive company data.

• Work with other departments within PathGroup and subsidiaries.

EDUCATION & LICENSURE:
• High School Diploma required
• Education/training equivalent to the above that includes at least 60 semester hours or equivalent from
an accredited institution. This education must include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory
technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that includes 6 semester hours of
chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical
laboratory technology in any combination. In addition, the individual must have laboratory training
including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the
ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS (note that this training may be
included in the 60 semester hours listed above), OR at least 3 months documented laboratory training
in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Three years of prior job-related experience is required.
