About the role

The Division of Healthy Start Systems is in the Child, Adolescent, and Family Health Bureau (CAFH) at the Boston Public Health Commission. The mission of the Division is to promote infant, maternal, and family health with a focus on reducing health inequities. The Division includes the following programs: Boston Healthy Start Initiative, Healthy Baby/Healthy Child, Healthy Start in Housing, Welcome Family, and Shirley's Food Pantry. These programs provide support to clients through care coordination, connection to resources, health education, andadvocacy. Healthy Baby Healthy Child in collaboration with Boston Medical Center Preventative Medicine Practicum is offering a practicum in maternal and child health to qualified candidates. Example projects include participating in task forces or committees, assisting in report production and presentations, grant preparation, focus groups and community work, and shadowing key staff for exposure to BPHC operations. This 320 hour practicum can be carried out over one 3-month block or longitudinally over a 2 year fellowship.   Working to help BPHC become an antiracist organization by meeting or exceeding the standards set by the BPHC Anti-Racism Policy.

· Support the integration of clinical service delivery with community prevention.

· Partner with HBHC staff to support maternal and child health programs

· Inform practices for addressing disparities and delivering care in medically underserved communities.

· Collaborate with key stakeholders including staff, providers, and clients to identify and carry out a project related to maternal health outcomes.

· Particpate in program planning for public health interventions designed to address disparities in maternal health

· Support program evaluation and quality improvement

Qualifications

· Passionate commitment to health equity and racial/social justice issues.

· Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the role of public health in addressing racism, the social determinants of health, and inequities in health outcomes as well as strategies to advance racial justice and health equity.

· Applicants have completed an ACGME accredited residency prior to starting

· Board-eligible or board-certified in family medicine, general internal medicine, general pediatrics, or combined internal medicine and pediatrics.

· Practice primary care in the Boston community.

Preferred or Plus:

· Demonstrated commitment to community health and health equity

· Bilingual or proficient in second language
