At Cancer Research UK, we exist to beat cancer.

We are professionals with purpose, beating cancer every day. But we need to go much further and much faster. That’s why we’re looking for someone talented, someone who wants to develop their skills, someone like you.

As part of our Engage Strategy, the charity is delivering a range of ambitious, modern change initiatives and programmes to better harness our Tech Stack to deliver better experiences for our audiences and engage and inspire millions of people in deeper, more meaningful ways to join our mission (and in turn drive growth).

As an Associate Software Engineer, you will be part of our Fundraising & Trading portfolio rotating across a range of change initiatives and products that helped raise £597m towards Cancer Research UK's life-saving work. However, you will predominantly focus on our Activity Management web applications which enable our supporters to sign up for a variety of different fundraising activities (e.g., this could be signing up to a Facebook challenge or requesting more information on our free Gift in Wills service). This will involve supporting the delivery of specific packages of development for these software applications and running them in production. You will work on both front and back-end applications using React, AWS, and TypeScri If you want to learn more about our Activity Management product, check out this article from one of our Engineers working on this product.

This is an opportunity to make a career change into Software Engineering while learning and upskilling in a modern tech stack (a highly sought-after skill set across all industries as part of the current digital skills shortage). You will be supported and trained in developing high-quality code under the mentorship of our talented Senior and Lead Software Engineers, and the wider engineering community while also gaining experience collaborating with Product Managers, Testers, Architects, and Business Analysts to convert business challenges into technical solutions.

If you are looking to move internally into the Software Engineering team and have some experience building web applications (either voluntarily or professionally), we would love you to join our mission.

What will I be doing?

  • Supporting the development of software packages and solutions within our Fundraising & Trad
