What You’ll Do

The Technology Enabling Development Lab (TED) Our core development focus is the host interface firmware layer that sits in the intersection of system software and flash management firmware. This key host interface firmware technology drives Samsung’s breakthrough V-NAND technology and enables our customers to power performance-oriented, demanding, enterprise-class applications ranging from hyper-scale data centers, to big data processing, to software defined virtualized storage arrays and infrastructures. Samsung is committed to developing the next generation of enterprise solid-state flash technologies. Our core development focus is the host interface firmware layer that sits in the intersection of system software and flash management firmware. This key host interface firmware technology drives Samsung’s breakthrough V-NAND technology and enables our customers to power performance-oriented, demanding, enterprise-class applications ranging from hyper-scale data centers, to big data processing, to software defined virtualized storage arrays and infrastructures.

Our Enterprise-class SSD's are expected to be of the highest-quality, therefore we seek a highly-experienced Firmware Test Engineer to drive continual improvement in the quality of our test infrastructure. This position will define, implement and support functional test coverage to validate NVMe FW. Other critical activities will be to constantly monitor and analyze test coverage and deploy new tools and capabilities into the daily regression cycles. Other duties will include monitoring quality metrics to ensure trends are demonstrating a constant improvement in product quality.

Location: Hybrid, working onsite at our San Jose, CA headquarters 3 days a week, with the flexibility to work remotely the remainder of your time.

  • Develop black-box functional test coverage and test methodologies for NVMe SSD's.
  • Track functional test coverage aligning with product and customers’ requirement.
  • Debug, triage failures and work with FW Team to reproduce problems, design and run experiments.
  • Analyze customer field issues and improve Functional test coverage where gaps are identified.
  • Provide guidance to the Automation team and assist with test coverage integration into the existing framework.

What You Bring

  • BS in Computer/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with 15+ years of experience or MS with 10+ years of experience preferred.
  • Strong programming experience, demonstrated proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, PERL, Bash, Linux shell scripts etc.
  • Relevant hands on experience in embedded software or firmware development/testing, including storage devices or other embedded platforms
  • PCIe/NVMe (or SAS) Protocol expertise.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise storage/server systems, and proficiency in Linux and Windows Server.
  • Expertise in storage test tools such as performance benchmarks, IO stress tools, protocol certifications, test execution and bug management tools.
  • Good technical leadership, collaborate with local and globally distributed teams and lead various modules in NVMe, PCIe protocol.
