POSITION TITLE:

Research Associate II, Ex Vivo

CLASSIFICATION (EXEMPT/NONEXEMPT):

REPORTS TO (TITLE):

Supervisory Team Lead/Scientific Director, Ex Vivo

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

Perform biobanking and cross-functional laboratory assays with a focus on in vitro/In vivo studies. Assist in the development of new models and maintenance of inventory across multiple cell types.

 

DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRODUCTIVITY EXPECTATIONS:

  • Contribute to 3D cell culture expansion and establishment and inventory maintenance.
  • Participate  in internal R&D projects to grow and enable deeper understanding in the field.
  • Mentor and guide entry level research associates in assay training and technical development.
  • Contribute to the development of SOPs and assay workflows for pre-clinical assays.
  • Contribute to data processing and preparation for client presentation.
  • Perform basic and advanced cell culture to characterize growth and survival under treatment by client test agents using 2-D and 3-D cell-based assays.
  • Efficiently plan and execute cell line scheduling for vivo studies.
  • Maintenance of laboratory and supply inventory and monthly tasks.
  • Contributes to the culture and demeanor of the ex vivo group by encouraging group cohesion and teamwork.

Qualifications


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Expertise in 2D, 3D cell culture and cell-based assays.
  • Experience handling primary cells, tumor tissue, and various blood products including serum/plasma, whole blood, and PBMCs.
  • Experience with flow cytometry is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and productively in a team-oriented environment while maintaining a strong sense of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound and accurate judgment in making timely decisions.
  • Strong planning, organizational, computer, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated accountability, initiative, and responsibility for own work.
  • Ability to observe safety and security procedures.
  • Ability to assist with other tasks/duties as needed in a small company environment.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BS degree +2 years of relevant experience or MS +1  years of relevant laboratory experience required. Preferred field of study in biology, or related sciences.
  • Experience working in or adjacent to an animal facility is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Must be able to sit and use hands to finger, handle and feel.
  • Must be able to lift and move packages weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time using a computer in a typical office environment in a multi-level facility
  • Some activities require repetitive motion and reaching, pulling or pushing.
  • In carrying out the duties of the job there will be frequent exposure to fumes and chemical hazards.
  • Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.
