Job Description:
The Change Parts Mechanical Designer will design customized tooling and solutions for packaging machinery in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and self-motivated designer who can apply their knowledge to diligently achieve established goals. The position requires innovation, execution of specific work orders, and occasional travel to packaging plants to support to our customers. The ideal candidate will be able to use proven base concepts to adapt designs to fit unique challenges. The position utilizes state of the art manufacturing techniques, top of the line laser scanners and a great support team with global interaction.
Responsibilities:
Design machine components, sections, systems, and modifications, considering functionality, manufacturability, cost, and operation
Collaborate with engineers on pertinent calculations for materials, stresses, clearances, and other factors
Utilize CAD tools to generate bills of materials, assembly and detailed drawings
Continuously improve procedures and product designs
Independently manage project assignments, including planning, execution, progress reviews, and results reporting
Collaborate effectively with internal and external customers to define action plans and recommend procedural changes
Accurately estimate project and task timelines
Utilize state-of-the-art equipment such as measuring instruments, laser digitizers, 3D printers, and advanced CAD software
Analyze and review engineering change requests while adhering to project milestones and ensuring execution accuracy
Support other departments by assisting with manufacturing/procurement issues, supplier interactions, and trial runs
Conduct field service trips to customer locations to provide technical assistance during installation, identify operational improvement opportunities, and offer customer support
Required Qualifications:
3+ years of experience designing mechanical components or hardware
Proven proficiency in Solidworks and AutoCAD (3+ years experience)
Ability to travel up to 20% for project requirements, including installation and customer support
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all levels of management, clients, and team members
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field)
Prior experience in machine design
