Position Summary:
The Occ Health/ Staff and Nurse Educator provides education and professional development activities for all clinical and non-clinical departments along with occupational health services. This person is responsible for developing and coordinating a comprehensive plan, which reflects and supports the Grace Cottage Family Health & Hospital mission, values and strategic plan, national and state practice standards and regulatory recommendations. This includes but not limited to: oversight of ergonomic evaluation of work centers, pre-employment and post-offer screenings, initial and specialty orientations for the nursing department; annual and ongoing competency assessments and validations; CPR, ACLS and PALS certifications; assisting the Equity Committee by helping identify additional LGBTQ+ and other equity educational opportunities; and implementation of specialty programs and training initiatives to meet identified needs.
Qualifications:
Education/ Experience: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Current Vermont Registered Nurse license. Bachelor’s Degree in nursing required, Master’s preferred.
Other Requirements: Minimum three (3) years teaching and/or leadership experience preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of clinical and acute nursing experience preferred. Demonstrated success in consultation, leadership and the ability to serve as a catalyst for change. Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently.
Requirements
Essential Functions Of The Position:
· Exhibits leadership behaviors by supporting and collaborating with organization and administrative structures. Oversees resources to achieve departmental and organizational goals. Evaluates actual outcomes and program effectiveness in relation to desired outcomes. Serves as a catalyst for change within organization by facilitating initiation of, adoption of, and adaptation to change.
· Provides informal counseling to employees with medical questions or concerns and refers staff to a provider when appropriate
· Pre-employment and post-offer screenings, Physical Assessment Testing (PATs), FIT testing.
· Participates in the development and implementation of health, safety and wellness programs.
· Administers employee health immunization programs
· Oversees the orientation of all new inpatient nursing employees and the orientation of current nurses cross training to other roles within the department. Meets regularly with all orienting employees to assess progress and additional training needs. Collaborates with the Nurse Manager to schedule additional orientation/training time as indicated.
· In collaboration with nurse managers, assesses and prioritizes ongoing training needs for nursing and clinical staff. Design and implement programs and training sessions to meet those needs. Maintain program documentation and records/files in accordance with organization policy and regulatory expectations.
· Oversees and manages the Elsevier computerized learning program for all staff. Track staff compliance with completion of assigned mandatory modules per hospital and departmental policy and follows up with managers as required/indicated. Makes recommendation to department managers on additional modules for staff to complete.
· Conducts Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification/recertification classes for all employees of the organization for whom it is required.
· Maintains the Learning Lab and training aids, including the Sim Man in good working order. Works with the ED Medical Director to plan and assist with ED provider skills training.
· Serve as a member of the Equity Committee, identify LGBTQ+ and other equity educational opportunities. Report data on educational activities to HEI. Maintain information, reference and source materials on LGBT and other equity-related topics.
· Actively participate in the Avade® WVP program, provide initial and annual training to all staff.
· Responsible for their own professional growth and development. Keeps current on the status of health care and educational issues. Participates in continuing education programs to keep abreast of trends and developments in staff education.
