Job Description
The Early Phase and Translational Medicine (EPTM) team at Otsuka is responsible for development of early phase as well as late-stage CNS and cardio-renal assets. EPTM team members represent multiple disciplines as cross functional team members in the non-clinical, clinical pharmacology, pharmacometrics and translational sciences. Key activities of the EPTM team are:
- Support of clinical pharmacology activities related to study design, protocol development, study execution, reporting and interpretation of data.
- Conduct quantitative data analysis (PK, PBPK, PK/PD analysis, and biomarker analysis).
- Support pharmacometrics team members and provide input related to analysis and reporting of PK, PBPK, and PK/PD.
- Author of clinical pharmacology sections in research paper, white paper or clinical documents.
- Work with bioanalytical team members on activities related to assay development, sample management, pharmacogenomics and biomarker development.
- Work with formulation development groups and provide support for activities related to formulation development, dissolution testing, in vivo-in vitro correlations and biowaivers for pre- and post-approval formulations.
What will the intern be doing?
- Respective candidate will be assigned to up to 3 disciplines within EPTM and work directly with a member of the EPTM team.
- Individual scientific project assignment or exploratory research question will be assigned to the candidate followed by 1:1 interaction.
- Respective candidate will be assigned to conduct scientific literature search and summarization, quantitative data analysis, reporting/interpretation of clinical or translational data, and drafting scientific manuscript or white paper.
- Project findings and a summary of activities by the respective candidate is expected to be orally presented and defended by the candidate by the end of the program.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- By Fall 2025 candidate must be considered a/n enrolled or graduating PhD candidate in the areas of Pharmacometrics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics, or Clinical Pharmacology at a leading academic institution.
- Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong scientific and technical background in modeling and simulation, quantitative pharmacology and/or pharmacometrics. Understanding of the drug development process and healthcare.
- Interest in / experiences with quantitative analyses of pharmacokinetic data, translational medicine, disease biomarker and biological systems preferred.
