Job Description

Apex is seeking an experienced leader to manage the Energy Assessment team, fostering a motivated and collaborative culture for the team while focusing on a productive portfolio that adheres to industry best practices. This position will report to the VP of Project Design.

Successful applicants will have a deep understanding of Energy Assessment across technologies and have managed technical teams in prior roles. Additionally, excellent communication, project management, and problem-solving skills are required.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Team Management: Offer leadership, technical support, and strategic guidance with regards to Energy Assessment across Apex projects, fostering a proactive, productive and efficient work culture.
  • Methodology & Standards: Ensure the Energy Assessment team consistently applies industry-standard methodologies and best practices across all analysis.
  • Communication & Documentation: Ensure Energy Assessment project information flows appropriately across the company, and that project details and methodologies are properly documented.
  • Work Prioritization: Manage, delegate, and prioritize tasks within the Energy Assessment team, ensuring timely and accurate completion of deliverables.
  • Development Oversight: Oversee climatology, optimization and energy reporting activities to support the needs of projects throughout their development, financing, and construction stages.
  • Commercial Support: Oversee internal and external analyses to support commercial activities including power marketing, project acquisitions, and project financing.
  • Process Improvement: Lead the development of new tools and define processes to address inefficiencies, enhance project value, and improve optimization efforts.
  • Relationship Management: Act as the primary relationship manager for external consultants and independent engineers, ensuring effective collaboration and communication.

Qualifications

Success Profile

To succeed as a Director of Energy Assessment at Apex Clean Energy, you’ll need to excel within the following criteria:

  • Education: Degree in Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Energy Management, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in energy assessment, project management, or a related field, with experience managing at team.
  • Skills:
    • Strong technical expertise in energy assessment and layout optimization
    • Strong preference for previous Development experience
    • Extensive professional use of relevant software including Windographer, Openwind, PVsyst and Microsoft Office
    • Extensive knowledge, both technical and commercial, of how energy assets are developed, constructed, financed and operated
    • Excellent analytical, reporting, presentation and communication skills
    • Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet, OneNote)
    • Excellent leadership and team-building skills
    • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
    • Effective communication and relationship management skills
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, LEED) are advantageous
