About the role

SUMMARY

 

Leads Regional Technical Training strategy, operations, and performance across Area Training Centers (ATCs). Provides direct leadership to Field Service Training Managers (FSTMs) and Field Service Training Specialists (FSTSs), ensuring alignment between field execution, regional planning, and national training objectives to improve technician capability, training utilization, and retailer outcomes. Drives operational excellence, consistency, and continuous improvement across training delivery, scheduling, and reporting. Serves as the primary link between Technical Training field execution and curriculum development, operations, and education verticals.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSBILITIES

 

  • Defines and executes Regional Technical Training strategy that translates business needs into timely and efficient training plans which improve technician readiness, performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Directly leads and develops Field Service Training Managers (FSTMs) and Field Service Training Specialists (FSTSs) to drive a high-performance culture focused on accountability, coaching, and continuous development.
  • Oversees regional scheduling, capacity planning, and training demand management, ensuring alignment to retailer needs, Subaru Technical Training Requirements, and Dispatch targets.
  • Establishes, monitors, and reports on key performance indicators (KPIs) that ensure efficient utilization of training resources, facilities, instructors, and curriculum such as seat fill, interest lists, completions, cancellations, and no-shows. Analyzes trends and translates data into actionable improvements and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Partners with Curriculum Development, Operations, and Education teams to provide field feedback; support programs (such as Pinnacle and Stature), pilots, and rollouts; improve course design and effectiveness; and enhance Subaru University (Subaru-U) efforts.
  • Oversees Area Training Center (ATC) facilities, capital assets, tools, and vehicle fleets to ensure compliance with safety, budget, and operational standards. Establishes and enforces standardized policies and procedures to ensure consistency in training delivery, facilitation quality, and student evaluation practices.
  • Leads regional planning for equipment, vehicle rotation, and facility readiness. Ensures adherence to safety, regulatory, security, and Subaru facility standards.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  • Builds strong relationships with retailers and service leadership, field service teams, and industry organizations. Represents the organization in industry events, advisory boards, and training initiatives.
  • Addresses and resolves high-priority and difficult issues as they relate to field technical training activities.
  • Crafts and leads regional special projects and continuous improvement initiatives such as fast-track training, Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) testing, Service Manager development, and Subaru-U initiatives.
  • Participates in regional and national technical training initiatives and conferences (e.g., Train the Trainer [T3], National Training Conference [NTC], Aftersales Business Conference [ABC], National Business Conference [NBC], etc.) and shares best practices with the regional team.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • At least 10-12 years required
  • Strong leadership and people development skills.
  • Expertise in training operations, capacity planning, and performance analytics.
  • Ability to influence across functions without direct authority.

  • Strong technical automotive knowledge and diagnostic expertise.

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Automobile & Light Truck Certifications (A1 - A8) - Master Automobile Technician or ability to obtain within, 1 Year Required And ASE Advanced Engine Performance Specialist Certification (L1) or ability to obtain within, 1 Year Required And
