Full-time, 36 hours per week, Monday and Tuesday: 9am - 5pm, Wednesday - Friday: 9am - 4:30p
Major Responsibilities:- Processes all reusable medical/surgical items for issue according to departmental and infection control policy and procedures.
- Sterilizes instruments and equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations and infection control guidelines. Completes thorough cleaning of surgical instruments and equipment.
- Processes patient care equipment for re-issue. Inspects patient care equipment for cleanliness and proper functioning.
- Inspects surgical instruments and equipment for proper functioning.
- Performs biological indicator tests on the Steam sterilizers and the Sterrad Unit and Steris One.
- Assembles instrument sets according to department protocols. Packages instrument sets for sterilizing.
- Distributes sterile equipment to appropriate areas. Communicates and notifies all personnel for the recall of sterilized items.
- Restocks surgery unit with medical/surgical supplies. Maintains established supply levels in the Central Processing area.
- Revises department policies to meet the department standards. Observes environmental standards for the Central Processing area.
- Lifts, carries and/or pushes/pull various items (bags, boxes, carts, etc.) while utilizing proper technique.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Good interpersonal communication skills. Requires the ability to receive and present information with proper conduct and tact.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must be able to stand, walk, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders on a daily basis.
- Must be able to:
- lift up to 15 lbs. from floor to overhead
- lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
- lift and carry up to 50 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance
- Must be able to:
- push/pull with 20 lbs. of force
- Position requires repetitive use of feet (i.e., heat sealer, sonic cleaner).
- Must have functional speech, vision, touch, and hearing.
- May be exposed to chemical hazards; therefore, protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
