We are seeking a Lead Project Manager to join the Financial Actuarial team. The ideal candidate should enjoy providing support to a large, collaborative team, and should be a highly motivated, results-oriented problem solver who enjoys keeping things organized and thrives in a fast-paced environment. This position leads with clear communication between teams, external partners, and senior management. The Lead Project Manager will be responsible for managing plan development, coordinating resources, and removing barriers to achieve target dates and goals, contributing to the overall success of the company.
The Financial Actuarial Lead Project Manager will work under the guidance and direction of the Head of Financial Actuarial and provide support to the various actuarial teams that make up the Financial Actuarial organization, including valuation, projections, experience analysis, and actuarial emerging issues. The Lead Project Manager will oversee one direct report who supports ongoing project management needs for the Financial Actuarial organization. 

Responsibilities:



  • Oversee Annual Actuarial Filings process to ensure compliance with regulatory standards
  • Maintain list of filing requirements by state, due dates, and owners
  • Research and document any changes to requirements on an annual basis
  • Coordinate document updates, ensuring all inputs are updated and final documents reviewed for completeness and accuracy
  • Identify opportunities and recommend data and/or reporting initiatives that will improve efficiency or accuracy
  • Ensure delivery of all filings by the due date 

  • Oversee Annual Assumption Update process
  • Lead the annual assumption update process spanning 6 months, working with the Experience Analysis VP to develop the project plan, set the annual calendar and update the inventory and risk assessment of assumptions
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and working group members by organizing meetings and discussions, documenting decisions, and following up on next steps needed to make recommendations ready for governance and to implement recommendations once approved.
  • Ensure governance requirements are followed, including appropriate approvals and documentation

  • Oversee General Operations of Financial Actuarial area
  • Provide support related to budgeting, management reporting, and expense analysis
  • Prepare and maintain presentation materials for management presentations
  • Work with external consultants and vendor management to implement new contracts
  • Maintain and update Business Continuity plans and facilitate retention policy across area

  • Oversee Project Management needs for the Financial Actuarial area
  • Design, implement and oversee ongoing programs and strategic projects
  • Serve as liaison between project teams to ensure development and coordination of scope, key requirements, deliverables, resources, plans and timing
  • Responsible for analyzing and evaluating project risks and guiding teams to overcome them
  • Responsible for proper documentation of projects including timelines, issues logs, business requirements, and final deliverables
  • Ensure that stakeholders are kept informed of key deliverables, roadblocks, and accomplishments
  • Manage one direct report to ensure effective project management, logistics and communication

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Math, Finance, Business Administration or related.  Equivalent industry experience may be considered
  • FLMI or willingness to work towards FLMI a plus
  • Experience in a highly controlled environment such as insurance or financial industry is preferred
  • Project management experience a plus, but will consider other process-oriented experience such as audit, compliance, finance, or systems analyst
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Must be detail-oriented with good analytical skills, able to handle multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Must be a team player who enjoys building relationships and enhancing team cohesion
  • Experience with Excel, including pivot tables and advanced formulas
  • Experience with Workiva a plus
Salary and Incentives:Protective’s targeted salary range for this position is $90,000 to $130,000. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors, including but not limited to, job location, skills, and experience.
