This position reports to the Division Manager of Quality Performance Assurance (QPA) as a Sr. QA Specialist, specializing in audits and assessments. The Sr. QA Specialist implements the company-wide assessment program to include independent assessments/audits, independent surveillances, management assessments, and supporting external assessment. This position is a representative of the QPA organization to subject organizations and will work closely with leadership and teams to foster a culture of self-criticality, openness, safety, and transparency. This position serves as a quality assurance (QA) subject matter expert (SME) for QPA and provides limited technical guidance to organizations with regards to QA requirements and inspects, audits, and assesses QA and technical aspects of work performed at the NNSS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and administration of a significant portion of the Quality Assurance Program, including the Assessments program
  • Assist in performing internal assessments to ensure compliance with quality codes and standards.
  • Work with and advises line organization supervisors and departmental representatives on quality matters to ensure that procedures and work practices comply with the MSTS Quality Assurance Program, other management systems, and government requirements.
  • Recommend actions related to non-compliance and follow through to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Maintain awareness of current additions or revisions to quality standards and procedures and apply them to work responsibilities as required.
  • Conduct QA related assessments, including performing the duties of a lead assessor
  • Oversee QA policies and procedures.
  • Assist in preparation of long-range plans and in implementation of quality programs in response to new missions.
  • Promote quality assurance and understanding in other Company organizational units.
  • Assist in quality training programs.
  • Review material and equipment requisitions for adherence to quality standards and codes.
  • Conducts research, data compilation, and data analysis.
  • Executes work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
  • Develops solutions for a range of complex problems and issues.
  • Perform duties relating to independent verification and receiving inspection of procured Quality materials for line organizations.
  • Generates non-conformance reports.
  • Perform other duties assigned by Management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Technical field related to the position or equivalent training and experience, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Including at least 5 years’ experience in assessments or assessment-type activities (e.g., audits, assessments, inspections, investigations). 
  • Experience with Quality Assurance and Quality Assurance principles and standards strongly preferred (e.g., ISO 9001, ASME NQA-1, DOE O 414).
  • Able to utilize independent judgment, creativity, initiative, and ability to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems and compose technical correspondence and reports and accomplish goals where established procedures may not be specific.
  • Must be highly organized and able to prioritize and schedule multiple activities of the work assignment.
