VP of Engineering

Rare genetic diseases affect 400 million people worldwide. A diagnosis takes five years due to genetic testing challenges. In the near future, understanding the results of sequencing the patient's genome will be the main challenge. The current manual process requires a high level of expertise and a lot of time to determine which of thousands of genetic aspects of a patient are responsible for the disease. Genetic disease patients needing a diagnosis don't have that time. How can we streamline this process? At Nostos Genomics, we believe technology like machine learning and simplicity are key.

Your role
We are looking for a VP of Engineering to lead our engineering team and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to develop our cutting-edge genetic diagnostics platform. You will be responsible for our cloud-based SaaS product, ensuring its scalability, reliability, and high performance. You will be expected to:

• Provide technical leadership, mentorship and direction to a small but high-performing engineering team, lead technical discussions and decision-making processes, execute the engineering roadmap and drive the long-term technical vision for our software product.

• Foster interdisciplinary collaboration and effective communication across the engineering, product and scientific teams to ensure alignment, knowledge sharing, transparency, and seamless execution of projects.

• Collaborate with the rest of the leadership team to align engineering objectives with the overall business strategy, ensuring engineering initiatives support the company's growth and objectives.

• Balance the need for quick innovation with long-term software quality and maintainability by managing engineering resources effectively (incl. budget).

• Champion cybersecurity practices within the organization, establishing robust security measures to protect highly sensitive data and ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks.

• Oversee infrastructure-related tasks, including managing the AWS infrastructure and ensuring that cloud infrastructure is strategically selected and deployed to meet geography-specific compliance standards.

• Drive a culture of innovation and technical excellence within the engineering team, keeping pace with best practices and industry trends, promoting continuous learning and development, encouraging experimentation with new technologies and approaches.

• Oversee the implementation of best practices for engineering processes, methodologies, and best practices to enhance operational efficiency, productivity, and software quality.

• Represent the company in technical discussions, conferences, and industry events, contributing to thought leadership and promoting the company's engineering capabilities.

Requirements

Essential

• Proven experience building, managing and leading engineering teams, preferably in an early-stage technology company.

• Strong technical background in software engineering, preferably with experience developing complex or data-intensive applications, cloud computing, and/or big data management.

• Deep understanding of engineering and DevOps best practices (e.g. coding standards, testing methodologies, version control, CI/CD), ensuring software quality and maintainability.

• Experience with cloud infrastructure management,
