For more than four decades Sydney College of the Arts have been the major NSW training ground for exceptional contemporary artists, researchers and curators. As Sydney's first tertiary art school, SCA have led the way in studio-based visual arts practice and education since 1976, and we are still evolving and delivering innovative contemporary art programs that support the professional success of our graduates.
The Senior Technical Officer, Visual Arts works under the broad direction of the Manager, Visual Arts Delivery to provide knowledge and technical skills to support academic programs of staff and students undertaking study at SCA providing technical expertise, support and leadership. This position will require specific skills in screen arts to support the Master of Film and Screen Arts program.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- deliver technical workshops in the Master of Film and Screen Arts core and elective units.
- ensure appropriate adherence to Work Health and Safety (WHS) procedures and guidelines in SCA screen arts studios.
- provide technical instruction and facility supervision to students enrolled in the Master of Film and Screen Arts program.
- closely support the academic cohort to deliver the Master of Film and Screen Arts including but not limited to:
- technical instruction
- seting-up, managing and maintaining film, video and sound production facilities including lighting studio, sound studios, incorporating both analogue and digital equipment and processes
- working with both analogue and digital video and sound equipment, both on location and in studio including recording, capturing, mixing, output to different platforms
- assisting in set-up and installation of student works using video, film and sound processes and equipment
- liaising with stakeholders across SCA, University Venues to secure location permissions for student filming.
About you
- be fluent in basic camera operation across variety of formats (I-phone, GH5, Sony FX30, Super 8, Bolex)
- be fluent in basic lighting and design (three-point, studio, single-source, greenscreen, chiaroscuro)
- be a team player with professional pre-production, production and post-production film/television experience
- be flexible, inventive and adaptable, ability to implement technical and creative solutions within tight time frames
- have the ability to work efficiently with diverse students and staff to complex timetables
- be fluent in Adobe Creative suite (including editing, after-effects and graphics/titles)
- have the ability to time manage workloads to deliver different course requirements effectively.
